The Old Dog & Bone

A rare Ericsson number 16 ‘Skeleton’ telephone is coming up for sale in the Clocks, Musical & Scientific Instrument Auction (lot 1524, 11 October). This model was produced by the esteemed telecommunications company L.M. Ericsson circa 1906, and were in the sole use of the British Post Office until the late 1950s.

So named due to their exposed inner workings, the ‘Skeleton’ has become popular amongst collectors, with them also being dubbed the ‘Eiffel Tower’ phone in the United States. With an attractive estimate of £200-400, this example will be sure to attract competition, make no bones about it!
