Watches Hammer Highlights

26/02/2020     Watches

In McTear’s watches auction on Sunday 23 February it was a lady’s watch that took the top-selling spot. Usually reserved for gentleman’s examples, this accolade was claimed by lot 831, a lady’s Patek Philippe diamond set watch which made £12,000 including fees.

Seeing strong competition from a room bidder, the lot was eventually won by a telephone bidder based in the south of England. Another turn up for the books was the second bestselling watch, this time a pocket watch. Lot 801 was a watch with chain, after online competition this went to a local room bidder for £2600.

A special mention also has to be made of military watches. Once again the demand was shown to be high for these sought after timepieces with most of the six lots selling above their pre-sale estimates.
