Enchanting Emeralds

Emerald is the birthstone for May and the beautiful green colour of these stones is derived from the presence of chromium and vanadium in their chemical structure.

The highest quality emeralds come from Colombia however they can also be found in Brazil, Australia and the USA. Most of the emeralds used in historical jewellery were from Cleopatra’s mines in Egypt, which were the earliest known mines, and ironically now only yield poor quality emeralds.

The Jewellery Auction taking place on the 2nd of May features over thirty lots of emerald jewellery. Highlights include lot 369, an emerald and diamond ring, lot 432, an emerald and diamond bracelet and lot 531, a certificated emerald and diamond ring.

Viewing for these lots and over 240 others will commence at 12pm on Wednesday 28 April.
