Pat Douthwaite

Glasgow-born artist Pat Douthwaite has been a favourite at McTear’s recent Scottish Contemporary Art Auctions. With two more works by the artist set to go under the hammer on May 9, there is sure to be fierce competition to bring home these two stunning pastels. Her darker subjects, combined with vibrant colours and striking lines make for compelling compositions.

Lot 796, Horse, in charcoal, is monotone in colour but saturated with depth and detail. It features the confident, strong lines, marking this work undoubtably as one of Douthwaite’s. Lot 797, Figure with Curly Hair, falls on the more vibrant side of Douthwaite’s oeuvre, with warm reds and oranges contrasting with the distinct black lines, forming the figure.

Demand for Douthwaite’s work has been on the rise in recent years, and McTear’s has been achieving some of the highest prices for pastels and charcoals by the artist. Estimated at £1,000-2,000, these stunning works by Douthwaite, among another 306 lots of fine Scottish Contemporary Art will make for an exciting Sunday sale.
