Show me the Receipts!

Lot 6 in The British & International Pictures Auction taking place this month features an exciting historical addition to the lot – the original 1881 purchase receipt from the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, now the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts!

Often labels on the back of pictures act as a passport for the picture and aid with uncovering the provenance of a work of art: receipts are just as useful. Estimated at £150-£250, this Scottish oil, and its accompanying piece of history, will be going under the hammer on February 24^th, alongside plenty of other exciting and historical works, such as those by Edward Atkinson Hornel, Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, Sir John Lavery, and Edvard Munch, just to name a few.
