Show me the Receipts!

Lot 6 in The British & International Pictures Auction taking place this month features an exciting historical addition to the lot – the original 1881 purchase receipt from the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts, now the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts!

Often labels on the back of pictures act as a passport for the picture and aid with uncovering the provenance of a work of art: receipts are just as useful. Estimated at £150-£250, this Scottish oil, and its accompanying piece of history, will be going under the hammer on February 24th, alongside plenty of other exciting and historical works, such as those by Edward Atkinson Hornel, Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, Sir John Lavery, and Edvard Munch, just to name a few.
