Whimsy and Wonder : Artworks by Heather Nevay

This August’s Scottish Contemporary Art Auction will feature 6 lots by Glasgow-born artist Heather Nevay. A graduate of Glasgow School of Art, Nevay’s artworks are heavy with symbolism to express ideas of heroism, weakness, fear and the shifting balance of human relationships. Despite these themes in her paintings, Nevay’s pictures are full of saturated colours, precise details and whimsical settings and figures.

Nevay has stated that some of her artistic influences include the likes of Frida Khalo, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Giovanni Bellini and Otto Dix. These influences can be seen in the way the artist is able to execute expansive landscapes, minute details in complex scenes and realistic yet wonderful figures full of whimsy.

Rich colours and intricate details abound, Nevay is a well-established and exhibited artist, with regular exhibitions at Compass Gallery and Cyril Gerber Fine Art, Glasgow, and the Portal Gallery, London.

Among the six lots by Nevay in this August’s sale, bidders will find ample examples by the artist, from largerworks, such as lot 109, ‘Between Earth & the Sky’ and smaller works such as the petite but impressive lot 242, ‘Tears’, measuring just 10cm x 10cm.
