Provenance: The collection of George Peper, long-time editor of Golf magazine and writer. The picture was commissioned by Peper, and was illustrated in the July 1990 edition of Golf magazine.
Note 1: As one of the oldest golf courses in the world, the Old Course at St. Andrews is full of history. Much of that history has occurred on the 18th hole and the green has been the stage for ecstatic victories and some famous disasters. The Valley of Sin, the famous clubhouse, the Swilcan Bridge. All golfers who play the closing hole walk over the 700-year-old bridge. Players pose on the bridge for a variety of reasons. Some do it following an Open Championship victory. Others to signify their last time playing the course. The hole is named "Tom Morris." Old Tom Morris designed both the first and the eighteenth holes.
Note 2: Kenneth Reed is universally acknowledged as one of the great golf course artists and his paintings have been commissioned by many of the golfing greats including Gary Player, Bob Charles, Greg Norman and Tom Weiskopf. Ken Reed is unusually versatile and paints in oils, gouache and watercolour. Ken has been a Fellow of The Royal Society of Artists since 1962.
