Is it confusing to name a whisky distillery after the region it’s situated in? Considering the Speyside region contains more than half of all Scottish whisky distilleries, trying to search online for expressions from The Speyside distillery can be akin to hunting for a needle in a pile of needles. Although, to be fair, this was probably less of a consideration when the distillery began production in 1990.
The brand underwent a re-vamp in 2014, now simply named “Spey”, and was re-launched with a focus on the Taiwanese market. To promote this new range the company recruited English football superstar Michael Owen to star in a TV ad campaign that is well worth seeking out on YouTube.
