JOHN ROBERTSON OF RANGERS F.C., HIS SCOTTISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP GOLD MEDAL
1912/13

the obverse with central enamel Lion Rampant motif and inscription SCOTTISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP RANGERS F.C. 1912-13, the reverse inscribed J. ROBERTSON, in fifteen carat gold, in fitted branded and inscribed box of issue

Note: A bittersweet medal, this was awarded to a player once descibed as 'a really classy half-back and an exceedingly capable player'. Robertson spent only one season with Rangers, during which time he helped them to this league championship. He also played his part in guiding Rangers to the Glasgow Cup final vs. Celtic. Rangers would ultimately lose the tie, though, more importantly, during the match Robertson would suffer a critical spinal injury, this leaving him crippled for the remainder of his life. He would ultimately die in 1937 after suffering from a cerebral heamorrhage.
