Note: Less than a week after this picture was completed Bone enlisted in the 9th Royal Scots (The Dandy Ninth). He completed many watercolours in France of war scenes, which were exhibited in Edinburgh in 1916 to “much public attention”. Unfortunately, he was killed in action at Arras on 29th April 1917.
