TWO VICTORIAN PARIAN WARE FIGURES
19TH CENTURY

one modelled as Clorinda, the warrior of the Saracen Army, the other modelled as the Muse of Comedy

34cm and 36cm high

The pagan warrior Clorinda is shown dressed for battle, but wounded by her Christian lover Tancred, from the 16th century poem “Jerusalem Delivered” by Tasso. The original sculpture was exhibited at the Royal Academy, London in 1848.
