The Coleraine Distillery was converted from a manorial mill and started producing malt whiskey in 1825. Previously one of the most respected of Ireland's distilleries, Coleraine fell victim to the decline and rationalisation of the Irish whiskey industry in the 20th century and the distillery ceased production in 1964 and was completely shut down in 1972, after the opening of the new Midleton Distillery.
