Note: Kathleen Conboy was born in Lancashire, but grew up and was educated in Bradford, West Yorkshire. She moved to Fife in 1969, and soon afterwards began to attend art classes. Her first professional exhibition was in 1985, when two paintings were selected by the English Speaking Union for their Edinburgh Festival exhibition, & sold. Since that time her work has appeared in many Edinburgh galleries - Hanover Fine Arts, Colours Gallery, The Kingfisher Gallery and the Torrance Gallery, where she exhibited annually since 1998, often with George Birrel. Out of town galleries include The Fisher Studio, Pittenweem, The Iona House Gallery, Woodstock (Oxfordshire) and the Jerdan Gallery (Crail). All her paintings are based on notes and sketches made 'on location' - her favourite haunts included the Outer Hebrides - Harris and Lewis, Barra, North and South Uist, Berneray, Benbecula and Eriskay. Other subjects are found in Mull, Iona and Skye, and, closer to home, Perthshire and the Fife coast. Further afield, France, Spain, and Majorca (especially), with its poppy fields and ancient olive trees, provides contrasting colours and lighting. Her favourite medium was oil, although she also worked in acrylic & pastels.
A condition report is offered as an indication of any issues visible to the naked eye. As none of our staff is a professional conservator or restorer, buyers must satisfy themselves in respect of condition and McTear’s can provide contact details of local professionals who can provide fully comprehensive expert reports, usually for a modest charge. The condition report does not form part of any contract between McTear's and the buyer, and all lots are offered "as is" in accordance with our Terms of Business available on our website.
