the hinged cover with central star inlay within geometric to octagonal border, further walnut border with plume of feathers to each corner, opening to reveal a violet silk and blind fret backed underside inscribed JANET 1871 PATON, the interior fitted with three pin cushions over a series of covered and uncovered recesses for thimbles, needles, spool and other accoutrements, the frieze drawer fitted with silk lined writing slope, further star inlay to side panels
