Received from Rangers F/C. Ibrox Park Govan... the sum of one Pounds four Shillings... Expenses incurred entertaining Alloa officials to tea whilst signing T. Craig, also attached with receipt from Ferguson & Forrester
Note: Glasgow boy Tully originally signed to Celtic from junior team Grange Rovers in June 1919. Whilst a quality player, manager Willie Maley deemed him too lightweight and was keen to offload him. He was soon swapped alongside another as part of a deal to bring in Willie Crilley from Alloa. Crilley proved a flop, though Tully impressed with Alloa to the extent he was signed by Rangers after one season for a fee of £750.
Maley's choice came back to bite him, during eleven years with the Gers he played an important role in seven league winning campaigns, two Scottish Cups, two Glasgow Cups and four Charity Cups. Further to this he was capped eight times.
This important document comes from Tully signing from Alloa.
