Note: We have struggled to identify the origins of this large painting which clearly has obvious qualities, but no provenance at all. The vendor acquired the work at a small auction house in England a number of years ago and was informed at the time that the painting was from a deceased estate. There are no labels or other indicators and the work is untitled. Several art professionals have considered this painting and all have agreed that it's an intriguing work. The recumbent figure in the foreground is flying a kite and the painting, of this figure in particular, is of a high standard and suggests the picture is the work of an artist of significance. The picture would benefit from a professional clean and there are minor scuffs and marks of age, but the canvas is sound. The vendor acquired the picture unframed and the current strip frame was subsequently instructed by him. The vendor has recently "down-sized" and is reluctantly selling as he can no longer accommodate a work of this size. The estimate reflects the vendor's requirement to sell but not his passionate conviction of the true value of this work.
