TONY CLEGG, BRADFORD CITY F.C. DIVISION THREE WINNERS GOLD MEDAL
1984-85

awarded to Tony Clegg (central defender) on the last day of the successful season, this medal is a rare piece of football history from one of the most traumatic days in British sporting history, a match forever overshadowed by the catastrophic fire at Valley Parade that claimed the lives of 56 supporters and injured hundreds more while playing Lincoln City.

Struck in nine carat gold, by Vaughton & Sons, the obverse cast in relief Canon LEAGUE DIVISION 3 WINNERS around the Football League crest in red and white enamels, reverse inscribed SEASON 1984-85.

Tony Clegg (born 8 November 1965) was an English professional footballer who played as a central defender for Bradford City and York City, making over 100 league and cup appearances, 48 for the Bantams alone, before moving to IFK Trelleborg in Sweden. One of the more unusual moments in Clegg’s career occurred during an away match against Hull City in the run-in to the title in 1985. Just four minutes into the game, Bradford's goalkeeper Eric McManus was injured and with no substitute goalkeeper available, Clegg stepped in to play between the posts. Clegg kept a clean sheet that day with Bradford going on to win 2-0. He later played non-league football for Chorley.
