Note: 'I was born and brought up in a tenement in the east-end of Glasgow in the 50s. What attracted me to the Gable-end of the tenement were the design and colours of the wallpaper. There seemed to be a slice taken from the building that revealed a hidden lost story of lives now gone. In the late 70s and early 80s I photographed some of the last remaining tenements at a time when there was a policy of clearances. Many families were shipped out in the slum clearances of the 60s and 70s to new housing estates and life-long friendships were lost, but their memories lived on. The policy of tenement demolition is now considered short- sighted, wasteful and mostly unsuccessful. - Gordon G Henderson
A condition report is offered as an indication of any issues visible to the naked eye. As none of our staff is a professional conservator or restorer, buyers must satisfy themselves in respect of condition and McTear’s can provide contact details of local professionals who can provide fully comprehensive expert reports, usually for a modest charge. The condition report does not form part of any contract between McTear's and the buyer, and all lots are offered "as is" in accordance with our Terms of Business available on our website.
