COLLECTION OF EIGHTEEN JAPANESE NINGYO DOLLS circa 1930-70, all in traditional japanese dress, some holding objects or instruments; together with four more modern kokeshi figures, some on lacquered wood stands, largest 19cm high Note: 'Proudly exhibited during the early spring festival known as Hina-Matsuri (Girl's Day), hina-ningyo have historically played a highly visible role in Japan's annual round of festivals, making them one of the most culturally important of Japan's doll forms', quoted from Japanese Dolls by Alan Scott Pate, Turtle Books 2008
