SIR DAVID YOUNG CAMERON ARSA RSW RA RSA (SCOTTISH 1865 - 1945)
EASDALE

watercolour on paper, initialled and titled
mounted, framed and under glass

image size 25cm x 21cm, overall size 58cm x 43cm

Note: David Young Cameron was born in Glasgow and studied at the Glasgow School of Art and the Royal School of Art schools. He began his artistic career as an etcher, like Muirhead Bone he was fascinated with architecture. Cameron also painted in oil and watercolour, particularly scenes from the hills and mountains of Scotland. A quiet and retiring man, Cameron much enjoyed the simpler and tranquil views of Scotland's mountain ranges and often painted at dusk. He was not interested in the decorative possibilities of painting and thus, although he knew the Glasgow Boys, his work stands outside the mainstream of the Glasgow School and remains distinctly individual. Cameron was the King's Painter and Limner in Scotland and lived for many years at Kippen in Stirlingshire 1933-45.
