SCOTTISH PINE AND COMPOSITION FIRE SURROUND OR CHIMNEYPIECE IN THE MANNER OF ROBERT ADAM,
with stepped cornice above egg and dart border, the frieze featuring shepherd boy and sheep flanked by eagles perched on swags, the supports further embellished with floral swags, 154cm high, 183cm wide

Provenance: From White Court Cottage of Killearn, originally called White Flats and built for James Hogarth Pringle in 1933. Pringle had served as Surgeon to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and it was noted that a fire surround orginally housed in the Lister Ward of this building designed by Robert Adam had been transferred to White Flats.

Opening measures 115.5 x 135.5cm

This piece has had replacement pieces applied including to each corner beneath the cornice; further losses of mouldings and composition including to the egg and dart frieze to the top and the majority of that originally applied to the borders of the opening, further smaller losses throughout; deterioration to the feet and overall quite fragile although still intact and in one piece, quite dry and with further general wear commensurate with age and use, would benefit from sympathetic restoration
