CALM KATHY, A CHARCOAL BY PETER HOWSON

* PETER HOWSON OBE (SCOTTISH b 1958),
CALM KATHY
charcoal on paper
20cm x 29cm
Mounted, framed and under glass.
Note: includes letter from the original owner: 'Many years ago our cat went missing so we put up flyers asking if anyone had seen him. We received a call that a cat answering our description had been found and would we come to reclaim him. Peter and I were so happy for this news and we agreed that Peter should go reclaim Spike, as the cat was called. Peter returned carrying a hold-all with some distinct Meowing going on. Spike was a very handsome tabby so you can imagine my surprise when a very pregnant, hissing black cat emerged. Peter just shrugged and said he couldn’t just leave her. Kathy, as we called her was never the most bonnie, nor the most affectionate cat. We went from one cat family to a seven cat family, but every one of the kittens was gorgeous. Peter did the drawings of Kathy to entertain Lucy, our daughter, and I. He captured her cheesed off expression quite perfectly. These have been in my possession exclusively since that time. Terry Howson'

A condition report is offered as an indication of any issues visible to the naked eye. As none of our staff is a professional conservator or restorer, buyers must satisfy themselves in respect of condition and McTear’s can provide contact details of local professionals who can provide fully comprehensive expert reports, usually for a modest charge. The condition report does not form part of any contract between McTear's and the buyer, and all lots are offered "as is" in accordance with our Terms of Business available on our website.
