Asian Works of Art in Glasgow last week– Hammer Highlights

30/04/2018     Asian Art

An early twentieth-century Chinese plate (lot 1102) far exceeded its estimate in the latest Asian Works of Art sale at McTear’s. The plate was decorated with a winter scene of figures and pavilions in a mountainous landscape. After online and saleroom competition, the hammer finally fell at a fantastic £3,600, selling to a buyer in Eastern China. The same buyer also bought two similarly decorated plates on which the gavel fell again at an impressive price of £2,600 each.

These plates certainly stole the show but a bronze foe dog (lot 1046) also gained a fantastic result. Estimated at £100–400, it sold for a wonderful ten times its estimate at £1,400 to a domestic buyer in Perth proving that these items are popular at home and away.
