Contemporary Pictures Online – Auction Highlights

25/04/2019     Scottish Contemporary Art

The Contemporary Pictures Online Auction ends on Sunday at 8pm, presenting an opportunity to bid on artworks you may have missed in the live sale! Below are a few of the highlights.

 514 – Barbara Robertson – Greener Grass

Offered at an attractive auction estimate of £100 – 150, lot 514 presents an opportunity to own a charming piece by one of Scotland’s best loved and accomplished printmakers.

 551 – Charles MacQueen – Heat, Tangier

Lot 551 is a classic example of MacQueen’s wonderful use of texture to create a shimmering and exotic world and carries an auction estimate of £800 – 1,200.

571 – Michael Durning – Last Tenement, Gorbals

Known for his depictions of dilapidated and forgotten monuments and buildings, Michael Durning’s ‘Last Tenement’ is an imposing yet solemn reminder of the loss of a part of Glasgow’s rich architectural history.

Lot 571 carries an auction estimate of £600 – 800.

707 – Ethel Walker – Spray of Lillies

Her still life paintings have been described as strong yet subtle, and this is a gorgeously elegant composition which highlights Walker’s tasteful approach to the genre.

Lot 707 carries an auction estimate of £1,000 – 2,000.

708 – David McLeod Martin – Still Life (Red Pear and Lemon)

This wonderfully bold still life by a master of colour is the perfect way to brighten up any room for the impending spring/summer season.

Lot 708 carries an auction estimate of £1,000 – 2,000.

709 – John Picking – Nostro Villiago (Our Village)

This large canvas of a bird’s eye view of a Sicilian village is not for the faint hearted! With the curving stonework and steep, rolling hills, Picking has created a dreamlike composition which evokes a hint of Surrealism.

Lot 709 carries an auction estimate of £800 – 1,200.

714 – Jack Vettriano – Future World

Jack Vettriano’s ‘Future World’ is a contemplative yet alluring effort at political commentary, and the placement of the Union Flag is certainly apt for a climate as divisive as the artist himself.

Lot 714 carries an auction estimate of £6000 – 9000.
