14/01/2020     Watches

McTear’s first Watches Auction of 2020 was one characterised by rarer vintage timepieces. Lot 766 was an Omega Chrono-quartz watch, unusual in appearance and function. Rare to auction, this sold to an absentee bidder based in London for £770 including fees.

Not to be outdone, it was a Rolex that took the top selling spot with lot 770, a gold plated Oysterdate Precision selling for £1200.

After competition on the phone, the timepiece sold to an online bidder based in the south west of England. Lot 761 was a very rare to auction watch and a favourite of the Watches Department Head Sarah Fergusson. This was a Fortis chronograph and made £280, selling to the same London buyer who won the Omega.

McTear’s is excited to be hosting two Watches Auctions in February; the usual auction plus the dedicated Rolex Auction. Entries are currently invited for both. Come along and speak with Sarah in person or call 0141 810 2880 for more information. Alternatively email sarah@mctears.co.uk for a complimentary, no obligation auction estimate.
