Age and beauty were key in The Jewellery Auction that took place on Sunday 3 November at McTear’s. The top three selling lots all featured old cut diamonds – stones cut by hand and not to the later mathematically-defined proportions of the modern brilliant cut.

Lot 10 was a very impressive diamond bangle set with around 4.50 carats of stones, which saw online and telephone competition and which sold for £5400 to the telephone bidder based in Ireland.

This was closely followed by the beautiful diamond set star brooch pendant at lot 93, which was won by a local absentee bidder. Lot 173 was a glittering diamond three stone ring.

This wearable piece achieved £1400 and sold to a delighted bidder in the saleroom.
