Bronze Bust is a Classic!

A 19th century classical bronze bust of David (lot 434) was a high hitter in today’s Antiques & Interiors Auction, achieving a hammer price of £260. The work, recalling many of the great Renaissance masters, attracted much of attention during our viewing days, and fierce competition between the room and the telephone saw one lucky bidder emerge victorious (much in the manner of young David himself!).

The bust wasn’t the only lot to capture the imaginations (and the paddles) of bidders, as a silver miniature of the ‘Challenge Cup’ (lot 218) sold for a striking £150. The cup itself had Royal provenance and was presented by King George V to Gourok Yacht Club in 1920.

Many thanks to all bidders, in the room, online and on the telephones, and we look forward to seeing you in a fortnight’s time for the next Antiques & Interiors sale!
