Fabulous Fornasetti in February Furniture

Friday’s Works of Art & Furniture auction boasted some real finds for the discerning bidder. With a wide range of antiques and militaria as well as furniture, this sale is a real draw for many collectors.

One of the most impressive lots in the sale was lot 1618, the retro rosewood dining suite which consisted of a sideboard, extending dining table and four Danex bow back single chairs. This retro beauty had a modest estimate of £150-250 but reached a hammer price of £1,700 – proving that style never goes out of fashion. Rosewood was the most desired material of the sale, with lot 1628, rosewood oblong drinks cabinet, selling for £1,300 – a whole £1,000 over its low estimate!

Staying in the same retro-cool era, lot 1641: Fornasetti Milano lacquered magazine rack, was a fine example of the Italian designer's work with bright, polychrome flowers on a lacquered black background, fetching an impressive £1,000 on the hammer. This gorgeous piece of design clearly caught the attention of bidders online and in the room, inspiring fierce competition.

Entries are invited for the next Works of Art & Furniture Auction which will be held on Friday 16 March.
