Friday's highlights

A number of eye-catching lots were successfully won by international online buyers at last week’s Antiques & Interiors auction, once again demonstrating the global audience that connects with McTear’s Live! auctions. An early-20th-century blonde plush teddy bear, offered at lot 55, is now on its way to a new home in England having achieved a cool hammer price of £260. Meanwhile, lot 156 featured an interesting oak monk’s bench. This quirky piece was successfully acquired by a Nassau-based internet buyer for £220.

Lot 262, a pair of Chinese vases, was amongst the major successes at the auction. The beautiful square tapering vases are of the typical Chinese famille verte palette, with blue border and decorated to each side of the body with painted panels. Each panel is adorned with detailed traditional scenes including flowers and figures, and the flared neck decorated with two smaller panels illustrating landscape scenes. Given the intricate beauty of this pair, it was unsurprising when they were snapped up by a Dublin-based internet buyer for an impressive £750.

As the results of last week’s auction demonstrate, this collective auction routinely comprises a bounty of treasures. The Antiques & Interiors auction takes place fortnightly and, like all McTear’s auctions, is held live online to a global bidding audience.
