King of the Stones

At 7.50 carats it was sure to turn heads... It came as no surprise when the impressive diamond, lot 4 in yesterday’s Jewellery auction sold for £32,000 including buyers’ premium. Mounted in a desirable Art Deco ring, the round brilliant cut diamond is certified by GCS Laboratory, London. The large size, certificate and period mount all increased the interest in this lot for which two international telephone bidders competed. Lot 211 was another solitaire, a more modern and perhaps modest example but it still managed to impress. This sold to a local room bidder for £3,200 including buyers’ premium, double its original estimate.

Period items still remain sought after with the beautiful Edwardian diamond brooch at lot 10A selling at £1500 hammer and a rare boxed Victorian bangle soaring past estimate to sell for £1550 hammer (lot 245.)

Lot 211, eighteen-carat gold diamond solitaire ring, sold £3200, and lot 10a, impressive Edwardian diamond set brooch pendant, sold £1500

Perhaps one of the lesser expected items to find in a jewellery auction was lot 139, the early 20th century Scottish Football Association medal. At £1200 hammer it soared past any intrinsic value and its original estimate.
