Lamps from East and West, of all shapes and sizes, light up McTear’s Glasgow Galleries this April. Spectacular light features are a common theme of the specialist auctions at McTear’s this month, with a stunningly diverse variety within each sale...
An Art Nouveau figural table lamp, by WMF, is one of the many beautiful lighting features scheduled to go under the hammer in The Works of Art & Furniture Auction on 7 April. Similarly pretty is a fine figural Art Deco lamp, modelled with two bronzed flapper girls, offered at lot 1632.
With an entirely more contemporary air, a graduated pair of ‘Facette’ ceramic lamps by Austrian designer Cari Zalloni feature at lot 1636. This rare pair is sure to attract interest, with an estimate of £40-70. Similarly quirky is a fantastic French ‘Aroun’ table lamp designed by Jean-Phillipe Nuel for Ligne Roset (lot 1640).
The British & Continental Ceramics & Glass Auction at McTear’s presents only further wonders to chose from. A studio pottery table lamp by Bernard Rooke, of typically textured form, goes under the hammer at lot 1004 on 8 April. Signed, and with shade, this is offered at £30-50.
If Western style, neither old nor new, hits you neither here nor there, perhaps you’ll be taken by the array of incredible Chinese lamps feature in The Asian Works of Art Auction on Friday 9 April. Diverse in style and size, a number of beauties in this sale originate from a stunning private Scottish collection. Not to be missed is a charming early 20th century table lamp modelled with a pair of ceramic geese (lot 780). Another enchanting piece is a Chinese carved wood floor standing lamp, modelled in the form of a dragon (lot 771). Each of these is offered with an estimate of £100-200.
