Macallan Grand Reserva Cask No. 51

For Macallan collectors the name ‘Gran Reserva’ will bring to mind the legendary late 70’s/early 80’s vintages which adorn all serious Macallan collections.

But few collections will possess the tremendously rare Gran Reserva cask no. 51.

This bottling was produced to celebrate the first dinner held in a specially created vault at the Scotch Whisky Experience on June 17 2009 surrounded by what was regarded at the time as the largest whisky collection in the world, bought from Brazilian collection Claive Vidiz.

The collection comprises of in excess of 3,000 bottles of whiskies from every part of the spectrum, from 1950’s Lagavulins, to more recognisable every day blends.

At the beginnings of the collection, Mr Vidiz had no real focus on what he was collecting, resulting in a fantastically eclectic range of spirits. As time moved on, he narrowed the scope of his purchases on quality and not quantity.

Lot 86 is one of only a handful of bottles to come to auction of the Macallan Gran Reserva cask 51. Signed by Bob Delgarno and bottled by hand at Macallan, this must have bottle is expected to sell for £25,000-£30,000
