Macallan is renowned for grabbing all the headlines, and true to form lot 101 is one of the more sought after bottles in the Rare & Fine whisky auction.
At the time this spirit was distilled, Geroge VI had spent a mere two years on the throne, WWII was still a year away, and Fred Astaire was in the charts with ‘Nice Work If you Can Get It’.
This Macallan 1938 vintage is known as the ‘handwritten label’ bottling, and is instantly recognisable by the red ribbon round the bottle.
This fantastic liquid was bottled around 1980, and was distributed by Atkinson Baldwin & Co. Ltd, who were a little known wholesaler of spirits and alcohol, based in London and Edinburgh. Similar bottles can be found where the distributor is Gordon & MacPhail, or the Italian importer Rinaldi.
