Model Vehicles Take Pole Position

An impressive train set and an expansive collection of model cars were amongst the highlights of The Works of Art, Medals, Militaria & Furniture Auction at McTear’s on Friday morning.

Featuring at lot 1778, the Hornby-Dublo Train EDG 7 Tank Goods Set had attracted much interest in advance of the auction. This set came along with a number of Hornby accessories and a quantity of track, and eventually sold to a bidder in the South East of England for a hammer price of £2,400.

The much anticipated sale of a remarkable collection of model cars did not disappoint. The auction included models from leading toy car manufacturers such as Corgi, Tri-Ang, Dinky, Scheco and more, many of which sped away at prices above high estimate. A Shackleton mechanical Foden F.G. van sold for an impressive £500, whilst a Corgi Ecurie Ecosse Car Transporter Set fetched £280.

A Corgi model of 1960s TV heartthrob The Saint’s Volvo P.1800 proved popular, as did a lot of two clockwork racing cars, including one early to mid 20th Century example. Both lots sold for a hammer price of £120.
