Philippe-n Marvellous- Patek Philippe Wristwatches

This month The Watches Auction offered not one but two gentleman’s Patek Philippe wristwatches. Considered by many to be the quintessential watch manufacturer, Patek Philippe have been associated with the very finest of timepieces since their inception in the mid-nineteenth century and their watches have been worn by the rich and famous ever since. Even at the grand old age of 165, they continue to wow watch enthusiasts today with their technical excellence and artistic flair.
It is telling that, of the ten most expensive watches ever sold at auction, nine have been manufactured by Patek Philippe. In 2014, the Patek Philippe Henry Graves Super complication pocket watch sold at auction for a record breaking $24 million. This watch is the most complicated ever made without the aid of computers and is testament to the manufacturing excellence of one of the finest watchmakers on the planet. Not content with simply telling you the time and date this piece of mechanical wizardry has 24 functions in total including giving you the age and phase of the moon and a chart of the stars in the sky. It was pretty much the iPad of its day!!

Lot 889, a gentleman’s 1969 eighteen carat gold Patek Philippe dress watch, sold for a hammer price of £3,600. The final lot of the sale, Lot 910 was a fine eighteen carat gold gentleman’s Patek Philippe from 1950. Looking far better than most 65 year olds this watch reached a hammer price of £4,500.
