The Clocks, Musical & Scientific Instruments Auction, held 26th August, offered a wonderful selection of terrific timepieces and interesting instruments. From saxophones to microscopes, there was something for all tastes and all budgets. The stars of the show were two fine saxophones by renowned maker “Selmer”. Lot 19, the classic “Mark VI”, sold for an eye-catching £3000 to a very happy telephone bidder. Not far behind was another Selmer saxophone, this time a “Series II Super Action” which again sold to a telephone bidder, this time for £1700. Following pre-auction interest and admiring glances during the view, Lot 45, a Scottish Drum Head Longcase Clock, also sold above estimate for an impressive £700. McTear’s has already noted an upturn in the value of longcase clocks and it seems the trend is continuing.
The auction continues to grow, so if you have a hidden hoard of harmonicas or a cupboard of carriage clocks please do not hesitate to get in touch for a free valuation. McTear’s is now accepting entries for The Clocks, Musical & Scientific Instruments auction in September.
