Christmas may be coming early for two people!

In Sunday’s Jewellery Auction two very large diamond solitaires (lots 63 and 2) sold above estimate at £12,000 and £13,000 respectively. One sold to a local buyer, the other to a buyer based in the north of England.

Both attended the sale in person but battled with phone and internet bidders to win the coveted items. The stones, each around 3.5 carats, represent the high demand for larger single stone rings at auction in the last year.

One of the more ornate items to perform well in the auction was the diamond bangle at lot 95. This achieved £9,000 hammer and sold to an online bidder living in the north of Scotland.

Not to be totally outdone, of the more traditionally popular items, the impressive diamond three stone ring at lot 4 soared past estimate and made £3600 (more than double the pre-sale estimate). Demonstrating the draw of the live auction buzz, this lot sold to another bidder who attended the sale in person.

Tiffany items can cause great excitement at auction and yesterday’s sale was no different. Lots 1 and 180 were both created by the brand. Lot 1 generated competition from three telephone bidders, and 180 saw bidding from the room, phone lines and online.

These items, a solitaire and a half eternity ring, sold for £2400 and £480 respectively.
