The January Blues

The first Jewellery Auction of the New Year takes place on 13 January. Why not celebrate the start of 2019 in style? With a stunning assortment of beautiful blue gems featuring in this auction, there’s certainly no reason for January blues at McTear’s this month.

One stand out lot is a tanzanite and diamond set ring (lot 138.) If you’re in the market for an extra special piece, this could be the one for you. Tanzanite is a rather rare gemstone which was first discovered in just 1967, and can be found only in Tanzania, in a mining area of only 7km. Lot 138 features a central oval tanzanite surrounded by round brilliant cut diamonds totalling over a carat, set in eighteen carat white gold (£3000-5000.)

If tanzanite seems like the blue for you, there’s more than one piece to choose from this month. Another tanzanite and diamond example features at lot 101. This comes with an auction estimate of £600- 900.

Alternatively, embrace the blues with an eye-catching an Art Deco diamond and turquoise brooch (lot 133). This impressive piece is formed by two circular sections featuring diamond and turquoise set star motifs – the larger featuring a central old brilliant cut diamond of approximately 1.00 carat, and the smaller, a diamond of approximately 0.55 carats – joined by a diamond and turquoise set chain. Sure to bring Art Deco glamour to any outfit, this is estimated at £1200–1800.
