The Krugerrand is a South African gold 1oz coin that was first minted in 1967 to push South African gold to the world. Production levels have varied significantly since the coin’s inception due to various countries’ refusal to import them as a reaction to apartheid.
It is estimated that around 50 million have been produced and these regularly feature in McTear’s six weekly Coins Auctions. Lots 566 (left) and 568 (right) in the September Coins Auction are both Krugerrands with the former being mounted in a pendant, on a chain. Each is estimated to sell just under £1000 and represents an opportunity for collectors and investors alike.
McTear’s sells more coins and banknotes than any other Scottish auction house in the dedicated auctions that take place twice monthly, run concurrently live online on a platform that attracts six million visitors annually from over 120 countries worldwide.
Dedicated auctions of Coins & Banknotes are held every six weeks. Come along to the Valuation Days at McTear’s on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week for complimentary auction advice.
