The Krugerrand is a South African gold 1oz coin that was first minted in 1967 to push South African gold to the world. Production levels have varied significantly since the coin’s inception due to various countries’ refusal to import them as a reaction to apartheid.
It is estimated that around 50 million have been produced and these regularly feature in McTear’s six weekly Coins Auctions. Lots 566 (left) and 568 (right) in the September Coins Auction are both Krugerrands with the former being mounted in a pendant, on a chain. Each is estimated to sell just under £1000 and represents an opportunity for collectors and investors alike.
