The Max Murray Collection

Medals & Shirts from the career of Max Murray are to go under the hammer next week. The player is most fondly remembered for his seven years with Rangers F.C., for whom he was top scorer during three seasons.

His honours with the club include the 1956/57 First Division Winner, as well as the 1956/57 and 1957/58 Glasgow Cups. All three medals are offered.

Another interesting medal (perhaps more so from a Celtic perspective), is his 1957/58 Scottish League Cup runners-up medal. This game still lives on in infamy as the ‘Hampden in the Sun’ match which saw Rangers’ arch-rivals triumph 7-1.

Some interesting ephemera from his time with the club is also presented, including two rare 1957 A.S.S.E. European programmes and a Sputnik radio from a 1960s tour of Russia.

Whilst never receiving a full international cap, he was capped at amateur and under-23 level, with three jerseys being offered.

The sale will also feature other standout pieces relating to the Gers, including Derek Johnstone’s 1981 Colin Jackson testimonial shirt, and Eric Caldow’s Glasgow Cup medal from 1956/57 (a match to one of Murray’s).
