The Scottish Enameller

Known as ‘the Scottish enameller’ to many, Maureen Edgar (b.1949) is one of Scotland’s most prolific living decorative artists. She chose to train in the traditional form of enamelling at Dundee’s Jordanstone College of Art, culminating in the opening her own studio in 1980. 

Edgar’s distinctive designs combined with her skill and focus on detail and quality of finish have elevated her work to be of national and future historical importance. Examples of her art feature in the collections of The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths in London and The National Museum of Scotland among others.

In The Jewellery Auction on 30^th January McTear’s is pleased to present a collection of items by Edgar, including earrings and a brooch. In addition to this exciting collection of jewellery by Edgar, McTear’s is proud to present lot 880, a very rare silver and enamel tea caddy. With intricate enamel decoration of stylised foliage on a midnight blue ground, lot 880 is a museum worthy piece and offered in The Silver Auction on 31 January at £3000-5000.
