A rare and collectable Swiss ‘Thorens’ lighter defied all expectations when it was knocked down for £750, now making its way to the south of England. Another to satisfy the vices was an unusual Indian white metal ‘Johnnie Walker Black Label’ decanter. Of good size and gauge, this piece was purchased locally for £600.
From the sinful to the saintly, a Victorian and later silver communion set was our best-selling lot. Presented in a substantial fitted oak case, this will now be making its way to London for the godly sum of £2,400.

The Gilded Age auction truly lived up to its name, delivering impressive results across a diverse range of silver, gold and luxury lots.
An 18ct gold mounted set of three pens by Royama was fit for a king or, rather, a sultan, bearing as they did the blazon of the Sultanate of Oman and went for £1,400 after an international bidding battle. The market for luxury goods remains buoyant with an Aspinal ‘Brit’ bag carrying on the Jubilee good feelings at £300 while Prada, Gucci and Alexander McQueen fashion accessories all sold strongly.
Delicate silver continues to appeal to an avid collecting base and a particularly fine Victorian ‘Castle Top’ vinaigrette by the respected maker Charles Deakin belied its size and weight to sell at an impressive £1,000. McTear’s continues to celebrate the modernist silver movement and few finer examples than the life-size and articulated crab caviar dish by the William Comyns firm have been seen at auction in recent years. It duly caught the eye of numerous interested parties with the hammer coming down at £4,000.

Caviar dishes to adorn the grandest table sat perfectly alongside an impressive Aesthetic Period parcel gilt silver ewer by Elkington & Co and a sumptuous set of four comports in this luxurious auction. A striking Arts & Crafts goblet, a luxurious compact by the celebrated Tiffany & Co of New York and an intricate William IV card case turned heads, while an elegant gentleman's travelling vanity set will soon set sail to new continents.
