_____________

McTear’s is the only auction house in the world to conduct an auction dedicated to Scottish contemporary art every single month through the year. Our final event of the year, The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction, commences at 1pm this Sunday (17 December) at McTear's in Glasgow.

Specialist Jenny MacLeod tells us about the auction, her favourite picks and some tips for buyers.

Tell us about this sale
It has an amazing array of original works by Britain's best artists, including Peter Howson, John Bellany, Alexander Goudie, Stephen Barclay, Gerard Burns, Jolomo, Iain Faulkner, Ethel Walker, John Cunningham, Sir Robin Philipson, Sir William Gillies, Dame Elizabeth Blackadder, James D Robertson, Willie Rodger, Pam Carter, Sheila MacMillan, Jean Feeny, Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Stephen Mangan, Ken Howard, Alison Dunlop, Graham McKean, James Harrigan, Francis Boag and many others. Enough said?

Pick a favourite lot in this sale
A stunningly beautiful painting (lot 98) by the great Alexander Goudie of his only daughter Gwen, as a child holding a dove. Goudie painted the great and the good (including a commission to paint HM The Queen) but is there anything more special than an artist painting a portrait of his young daughter?

It is ‘attractively’ estimated at £4000-6000.

Can I view the auction in person?
All live auctions at McTear's have scheduled viewing days, usually with a minimum of two days prior to each specialist auction. Viewing details are avaiable in the online catalogue.

How do I request a condition report and how long will it take to send to me?
For a number of our specialist sales, condition reports are provided on our website. Additional information can also be requested by clicking the 'report request' button in each lot description.

How do I pay for an item I’ve bought?
You will receive an invoice, sent by email, immediately following the completion of the auction. You can then pay by secure online payment, by bank transfer, or in person using a credit or debit card.

If I buy an item and want to pick up in person when are you open?
We are open for collection Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, and Saturday 9.30am - 12 noon.

What delivery options are there?
Whilst we don’t offer an in-house service for collection and shipping, we do recommend a number of trusted local service providers. Shipping information >>

When should I expect the lot I’m interested in to come up?
The sale starts at 1pm, and we typically get through 100 lots an hour. If you are bidding live online, you can set an alarm to alert you when the live bidding begins for a lot you’re interested in. You can set an alarm for any lot from within the bidding screen once the auction begins.

What if I can’t make it to the live auction?
You can easily place a maximum bid in advance of the auction via the online catalogue on this website. You can also bid live online in realtime >> read more >>
