Houston to Whistler | Art From Britain & Abroad saw lots of fierce competition over the phones, online and in the saleroom. The sale started off strong with an etching by James Abbott McNeill Whistler selling for a hammer price £420 against estimate £200-300. An oil by George Houston, the other titular artist in February’s sale sold for £1800 against an estimate of £800-1,200. The competition continued throughout the sale, and high prices were fetched for works by J D Fergusson, George Melvin Rennie, Flora Lion and others.
