The jewellery auction featured a stunning selection of items going under the hammer with diamonds, gold and unusual pieces being snapped up by keen bidders. 

A gorgeous diamond two stone ring was snapped up by a local buyer for an impressive £3,600. Gold gem set and dress rings saw fierce competition in the saleroom, while a beautiful ruby and diamond panther pendant achieved £650, alongside a much sought after Georgian diamond ring, which fetched £850. Signet rings proved very popular with bidders at home and abroad, while a fashionable tricolour gold necklet and bracelet set brought bidding over £2000.

Football memorabilia struck a chord with collectors in this banner Sporting auction.

A rare SFA Scottish Cup Winner’s Medal of 1933-34 awarded to Willie Nicholson of Rangers F.C. sparked competition among ‘Gers collectors with the fact that Nicholson scored a brace in the final only adding to the selling for an impressive £3,200.

The very next lot saw an even more protracted bidding battle between two phone lines for an important Internazionale jersey from the 1966-67 season, believed to be that of Italian legend Mauro Bicicli – after five-plus minutes of back and forth the hammer finally fell at a spectacular £9,000.

Golf and fishing were both well represented with a private collection including a signed Tiger Woods photograph chiming well with bidders fresh from the Open at St. Andrews before reels by famed maker Hardy Bros. of Alnwick amongst others keenly contested.

Instruments of all disciplines were internationally contested in this latest auction.

Bidders saw potential in a George III and later bracket clock with the movement bearing a signature for well regarded maker John Topping and pursued it to £2,300.

A fine violin bow by German specialist maker Paul Wiedhaas attracted collectors from around Europe before selling at £525.

Finally, a collection of fine Canon and other camera lenses appealed to a keen photography community and cumulatively went for over £3,000.

Antique furniture of good quality with an unusual aspect continues to buck the trend and a 19th century Davenport in olivewood from Jerusalem proved just that with bidders from Israel and the UK battling to £650.

An unusual Mauchline table snuff box bearing twin finely executed pen-work hunting scenes certainly appealed to collectors, eventually selling for £750.

Good quality porcelain of the 19th and 20th centuries provoked strong bidding with an excellent private collection of fruit painted Royal Worcester making over £11,000 collectively before a fine KPM plaque went for £1,400.

An excellent private collection of model engines headlined the latest edition of Scotland’s only dedicated auction.

A good French agricultural model by Merlin & Cie. led the way at an impressive £2,600 and was immediately followed with a stationary mill engine by Vision Engineering Ltd realising £1,200.

Chess has rocketed in popularity thanks to its pandemic-safe nature as well as the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit and playing sets of quality are rabidly pursued.  We were delighted to offer a particularly fine ‘Staunton’ pattern set by the best maker of them all, Jacques, which made the equally fine price of £1,500.

A superbly restored Austin J40 pedal car turned heads at £4,000 while private collections of Britains, haulage and The Lord of the Rings models proved popular with collectors.

Bidders from around the world competed in what was a spectacular auction of Militaria, Maps and Ethnographica.

A private collection of rare military binoculars headlined the auction with high pre-sale interest leading to impressive results: a bid of £13,000 was required to secure a rare pair of Kriegsmarine stationary binoculars by Askania and the seven lots spanning German, British, Russian and French production totalled a hammer price of over £25,000.

Fine maps from the same source also fared well with an excellent example of Blaeu’s Anglo-Saxon Heptarchy going for £600.

Collectors flocked to a scarce Battle of Britain RAF scramble bell, pursuing it to £1,200 before the hammer fell.

An excellent array of antique firearms and edged weapons followed with a Mameluke sabre at £360, two 1796 Pattern officer’s sabres at £550 and a Japanese Tanegashima musket at £440.

Finally, South Africa medals with a family connection proved popular among collectors with two issued to a T. and J. Logan respectively going for just under £1,000 together.

July’s British & International Pictures Auction helped kick off a busy week of 7 auctions at McTear’s. There was plenty of excitement, with bids coming in in the room, online and over the phones. Artists such as Harold Storey and James Hamilton Mackenzie achieved surprising but well-deserved high prices, with fierce competition. Auction favourites such as Ralston Gudgeon and Jessie Marion King also performed well, among others.

Our July whisky sale really did boast an embarrassment of riches. Opening the auction with a bang was a stunning 1976 vintage Caol Ila bottled by renowned Italian importer, Silvano Samaroli, along with mind-blowing malts from distilleries such as Springbank, Bowmore, Lagavulin, Rosebank, and Glenlivet. Not to mention one of the best selections of Macallan Anniversary Malts we’ve ever seen.

Of course, it wasn't exclusively whisky on offer. Three heavyweight Cognacs in the form of a Remy Martin Louis XIII 2012 Release, Hennessy Paradis 200th Anniversary Edition, and a Larsen Tres Vielle Reserve, each of which presented in an eye-catching Baccarat crystal decanter.
